Instagram Weekend No. 6

This past weekend was amazing! On Saturday, we got up early to head down to this amazing place called Almost Home.  Almost Home provides housing, food, support, and education to teen moms and their kids.  Judd's friend Jason has been volunteering there at Christmastime for years, taking studio quality portraits of the moms and kids.  He invited Judd and I and some other local photographers to join him this year, and we jumped at the chance!  We had so much fun playing with the little ones and meeting the moms.  And the kids really loved having their photos taken- I think we have some future photographers on our hands! The moms we met were inspirational.  They possess more strength, courage, and drive than I could ever hope to have, and they're all under 20!  Each one of them has a bright future ahead of them.

After wrapping up at Almost Home, we ate some delicious lunch and ice cream, and headed home to meet our friends Camma and Beau, and their baby girl Violet.  The five of us piled into Camma's car and drove out to Illinois to see the Christmas light display at Our Lady of the Snows.  The light display was kind of disappointing, but we still had a great time, and Camma and I got to ride a camel which was one of the coolest things I've ever done, so that made it way worth it!

We braved the chaos on Sunday and got our Christmas shopping done.  I finished up designing our Christmas cards without a moment to spare, and we had a little family photo shoot with our tinsel tree.  We're headed to my family's Christmas in Chicago on Saturday and then from there we go to Ohio to see Judd's family for a week!  There's lots to do, but I think we're in good shape :)

How was your weekend?

Instagram Weekday: A Very Foggy Day

We recently woke up to some incredible fog, and Judd drove the dogs and me through the park on the way to work.  The fog was so thick in the valleys, our visibility was only a few feet ahead.  There was a murder of crows (so excited I got to use that in a sentence!) that scared me half to death (but Judd  found them majestic).  What an eerily beautiful morning ♥

Tomorrow, Judd and I are headed to NASHVILLE!! We won't be back until next week (that means no blogging!!), but I can promise we will return with lots to share and a heap of photos.  If you have any suggestions of places to go, things to see, (or things to eat!) leave us a comment and we will do our best to check it out! Until then...

Instagram Weekend No. 3

I had the best weekend you guys!!  Friday night, Judd and I went to see ROB ZOMBIE!!! You probably don't know this but I am a HUGE Zombie fan.  In fact, just a few months after we started dating, Judd and I won tickets and went to the Rob Zombie show, and because of sheer dumb luck (and an awesome boyfriend pushing me toward the aisle) I got to kiss (and wrap my legs around) Rob Zombie before I was pulled off by his security.  Yes, unfortunately, when it comes to Rob Zombie or Eddie Vedder (and to a slightly lesser extent, Chris Cornell and Glenn Danzig),  I am THAT girl.  Don't worry, there was no throwing my 27-year-old self on an unsuspecting Rock God this time around.  I just froze my tail off on the lawn and screamed the lyrics from "MARS NEEDS WOMEN" to "THUNDERKISS 65" with my handsome Judd!

Saturday, my crafty bud Ann came over and we made some Halloween wreaths. Ann made hers with black feathers and tulle, mine has purple glitter spiders.  We even redecorated my place a bit too! I always have the best time with Ann ♥. She's going to be in on some P+E craft projects in the future, so keep your eyes peeled for her! I'll see if Judd can salvage the crappy photos I took of our wreaths so I can post them here.

Sunday was the first Sunday Judd had off in months (YAY!) so we drove out to Illinois and visited the Eckert's pumpkin patch.  We had the dogs with us, so we didn't stay long enough to go pick our own (we will go back for that!) but we got a few little pumpkins and a pecan pie.  And we managed to squeeze in a round of mini golf! I also painted a vintage-inspired pumpkin: photos/tutorial coming soon!

How was your weekend?

Pink Elephant, I Presume?

Happy {belated} Labor Day!  We packed the dogs in the car and took a trip up I-55 in search of Pre-war Bicycles and Bakelite... But we ended up coming home with some great photos instead!

It was nice to have the extra day off to get outside and run around the great state of Illinois with the doggies. Judd and I took turns being sick this past week, so the fresh air was something we really needed.  The rain took a break, and we did some exploring around the grounds of one of our favorite Antique Malls- the Pink Elephant in Livingston, IL.  Not only does this renovated school gymnasium boast wall-to-wall ephemera on the inside, the incredible structures outside make it a roadside attraction! What "incredible structures", you ask? Have a look!

Did I mention they have the best Birthday Cake ice cream on the planet?

Even though we didn't find what we were looking for, we did find ourselves a wonderful little adventure!  Which was really the point anyways. In fact we had ourselves such a wonderful time that we decided to traverse further down I-55 about another thirty miles and hit up two other antique malls. It seemed the further out we traveled the more far-out the merchandise got. We actually fell in love with a lot of items at the last two malls... reclaimed wood from barns, old milk crates, and the local people!!! We recommend taking a weekend off from the city life, loading a cooler with snacks and drinks, and driving a good hour outside of your normal comfort zone. You never know what you might find or what might find you.

If you decide to do just that and you happen to find any old pre war bicycles or some beautiful bakelite, you know how to get ahold of us ;)

Happy Birthday, Alabama!

I'm really excited today-- today is Alabama's second birthday!!  If you've known me for a while, you know that I've always wanted (but had never had) a dog.  I was going to tell the whole crazy story of Bams coming into our lives, but its extremely long so here's the super short version.  In a whirlwind, our best buddy Jake brought a litter of puppies to our place, I lost my mind and had to keep one!  We named her Alabama after a character in my favorite movie, True Romance. From that moment on, our lives changed forever.  In less than a week, we  went from one dog to two, made a sudden decision to change scenery, packed our belongings into the Camaro and moved to Oregon.  We spent the next 9 months living in a great big house in the middle of nowhere with Jake, Neko (our black lab), Alabama, and four other pit bulls.  Oh and our cat, Isabey!  We learned so much and had so many adventures during that time, and Alabama and Neko became a huge part of my life.  I can't imagine going anywhere without them.

I love this little girl more than life.  Her favorite things are:  exploring, swimming, playing intense games of fetch in raging rivers and lakes, giving kisses, camping, spinning in circles, car rides, Ted Drewes frozen custard, and loving on (or irritating!) her big brother Neko.  We've had adventures together in 15 different states, from Washington State to Michigan, to Tennessee.  There's nothing we love more than packing up the kids and venturing into the great outdoors.  I am so lucky to have such wonderful animals (and one amazing guy) to make these memories with!!

1.  When I first held her.  2.  Neko and little sister Bams on a daring adventure in Washington State Park.  3.  Uncle Randy with Momma Trixy and all the puppies!  Can you pick out Bama?

Happy birthday, sunshine.  Your dad + I love you so much!!!  And yes, we're taking you guys out for ice cream!!
